NFL Playoffs: History + Wild Card Round

The NFL playoffs start tomorrow.

Here’s why I care:

Every year, Vegas makes their best prediction on which teams will win and by how much. Each year, Tim and I make predictions on every single game. Every year, we absolutely destroy Vegas. Outside of last year’s Bizarro playoffs, the worst record either of us posted was 7-4. These picks date back to the 2002 playoffs. When we agree on picks, we are something ridiculous like 26-7. Because destroying Vegas has started to lose its fun, we concentrate on outpicking each other.

Anyways, I’ve absolutely humiliated Tim 3 years in a row. It’s kind of had a bad run of him. 3 years ago, I opted to take the Eagles instead of the Patriots (which would have guaranteed me a win) in the Superbowl; the Eagles had a backdoor cover that I am convinced demoralized him more than Gig00 was demoralized by Greenba092 in dice rolling competitions. Two years ago, he picked against B-Roth in 3 straight games using the rationale that Jake Plummer could lead a team to the super bowl and Matt Hassleback could win a super bowl. Last year, he failed to realize it was the Bizarro playoffs and suffered through the Jets debacle. The thought of beating him for the 4 year after spending the entire regular season in Zambia makes me giddy.

So, these playoff picks have become a big deal. No money is involved, but this is probably the most important gambling moment for either Tim or me throughout the entire. Have I mentioned that Tim bases his entire life around gambling (he’s a professional poker player) and I once moved a line in a Vegas casino for a game involving a tiny Christian North Carolina school called Elon College? (Side note: gambling on a Elon game is the worst idea ever.)

Here are my picks:
STEELERS+1 v Jags.
Okay. Let’s recap. Steelers are at home. B-Roth is like 92-8 as a starter. B-Roth is 5-1 in the playoffs and 5-1 ATS. The fact that the Steelers are underdogs here and I momentarily considered picking against them is just further evidence that B-Roth is beyond brilliant.
BUCS -2.5 v Giants
My order of NFL QB man-crushes goes like this: B-Roth, Pennington, Kitna, Jeff Garcia. Garcia versus Eli Manning is the equivalent of clutch versus anti-clutch. It's a tough decision, but I think I'll go with 'clutch'.
SEAHAWKS v Redskins -4.5
I unfortunately think this is going to be a trend these playoffs. Seahawks at home = yawn. Best line of the first round.
TITANS +9.5 v Chargers
Uhm, I’ve been in Zambia for the last 4 months. I knoe nothing, except that 9.5 points is a lot.

The wild card round is always the most impossible round. Even though Tim and I both agree on all four, we’re prolly going to get destroyed.

Since I’m bored, let’s make predictions for the 2nd week as well:
Colts -7 v Chargers
Bucs +7.5 v Cowboys
Seahawks +6 v Packers in most likely the pivotale line of the 2008 playoffs
Steelers +12.5 v Patriots in probably the greatest playoff line of all time
